We’ve been here for a few weeks now and I’m finally starting to feel settled. New Zealand is a truly amazing place and we are so glad to have uprooted from everything we know to move here. We have got a lovely house, a great car and finally a working internet connection. I’m still looking for a job and have applied to a couple of nice looking schools. We have spent loads of time looking around the city and it is just fantastic. Within 10 minutes drive of the city are amazing things. Lyttleton Harbour to the South, the Waimakariri River to the north, New Brighton beach to the east and the Southern Alps to the west.

Lyttleton Harbour

Skating wise, the city is just a dream. Flat wide roads on a grid system that run for miles boardered by the smoothest,  winding, hairpinned roads. There are loads of longboarders here and skaters in general are everywhere. I’ve hooked up with a couple of people and pointed them towards the facebook page in order to get some kind of regular sessions happening.

It will happen.

Now, these are NOT the skatefurther T-shirts we are getting done professionally. You can see Ken from Indigenous Industries wonderful design for those here. They are in the works and will be on our shores pretty soon. These are an attempt at screen printing at home.

Here’s how it works.

1. Print your design onto paper. I did 2 sizes to see which one fitted the screen best.

2.Trace the outline of your design onto the screen using pencil. It wears it out super fast.

3. Fill all the bits in that you want to be printed with drawing fluid and let it dry. Take your time!

3. Use a squeegee and cover the whole screen with filler ink and let that dry. Only do one pass as you still need to see the drawing fluid.

4. Wash out the drawing fluid with cold water, use a toothbrush to help

5. Then finally hold the screen down (with the help of your wonderful wife) and squeegee the ink across the screen onto a suitable t-shirt.

Tadaa!

And I’ve not skated as much as I should. Completely re-decorated the house; new carpets, paint and tidy garden. Also getting married in 2 weeks - so it’s been hectic. I have, however, been running with the kids at work and managed a few trips out on the new board. Cleaned up my camera and took a few macro shots of the virages.

Found an old screen printer at work today. Messed about with it and the kids did some cool bits.

I had to have a go too!

Actually really pleased with the results. No emulsion, not messing about, just 2 bits of A4 paper, a blade and some screen paint…

Tadaa!

Might look into this with a bit more effort. I’m sure we could do something with a screen printer.
